Level 2 - Communications for Living - Sept 2009
County Dublin VEC was one of the first providers in the country to have a Level 2 programme validated by FETAC. Communications for Living is a curriculum framework designed by the Adult Literacy Service and is suitable for adults and young people. The key skills of literacy, numeracy, IT and personal development are the core of the framework. There are 5 compulsory components and 3 optional components available. Learners must achieve all the Learning Outcomes in the 5 compulsory modules and in 1 of the optional modules in order to achieve the full certificate. It is recommended that, in keeping with best practice in adult basic education, the skills are taught and practised in an integrated way.
The framework was piloted in most of the centres within the Adult Literacy Service, Youthreach and Traveller Training Services in the academic year 2008-2009. Support for the development and implementation of the programme is available from the County Co-ordinator of Quality Assurance and the County Co-ordinator of Research, Development and Literacy Services. Further support is available through the Regional Co-ordinator of Youthreach and STTCs and in particular from centre managers, key staff and networks in the services mentioned above.
County Dublin VEC has developed a range of guidelines, templates and materials for Communications for Living. Centres are encouraged to contribute to these resources through the County Co-ordinator of Quality Assurance and the County Co-ordinator of Research, Development and Literacy Services. They will ensure that new and adapted materials are passed to the Countywide Steering Group for Level 2 for approval prior to them being made available on the website.
