County Dublin V.E.C Appointed as lead V.E.C in national English Language Provision

After a competitive tender submission process, County Dublin V.E.C was delighted to recently be appointed as lead V.E.C in the national provision of English language and related training to refugees.

During the summer, the Government announced that it was asking the IVEA to facilitate the moving of the provision of English language and socialisation programmes for refugees from Integrate Ireland Language and Training to the V.E.C sector. As a preliminary step, each V.E.C within whose geographical area classes were taking place was asked to assume responsibility for class provision. The IVEA was also asked to put in place a process to select a lead V.E.C to budget, support, co-ordinate and lead the provision of the service on a national basis.

The above process involved the submission of a detailed proposal, followed by an interview process with a 3-person select panel put together by the IVEA, comprising a nominee from the DES, a nominee from the IVEA and an applied linguist. The process took place during August and early September and County Dublin V.E.C was delighted to be advised in early September that its submission had been successful.

The time between now and Christmas will involve a lot of detailed planning, with all activity and organisation from January 2009 to be put in place. County Dublin V.E.C is looking forward both to its national role in the provision of ESOL services to refugees and to working with other V.E.Cs in the provision of an integrated, quality controlled service.
