Freedom of Information
The VEC sector is not currently prescribed under the Freedom of Information Act and therefore requests can not be made under the legislation at present, it is expected that the VEC sector will fall under the above legislation in the near future.
However, we will endeavour to assist with any reasonable and relevant requests for information, requests should be directed to the Manager of the relevant Department.
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act confers on everyone the right to:
- access official records held by Government Departments or other public bodies listed in the Act
- To have personal information held on them corrected or updated where such information is incomplete, incorrect or misleading; and
- To be given reasons for decisions taken by public bodies that affect them.
Regulations provide parents, guardians and next -of-kin with the above rights.
Information is made available to the greatest extent possible, consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy.

This site includes information on how to make a request to public bodies, how to make an appeal to the Information Commissioner, the public bodies covered under the Act and also lists some decisions made by the Commissioner.
- www.foi.gov.ie is the web-site of the Central Policy Unit in the Department of Finance. This site gives information, guidelines and other resources relevant to the Freedom of Information Act including reports, press statements, speeches and minutes of meetings of FOI Working Groups chaired by the Department. It also includes copies of Annual Reports of the Minister for Finance.
