Student Grants

County Dublin VEC in conjunction with the Department of Education and Science administer a means-tested Grant scheme that offers financial support to students attending universities, institutes of technology and approved PLC colleges.

County Dublin VEC administers the following Grants Schemes:

VEC Scholarship Scheme for students attending:

  • Honours Degree and Post Graduate Courses at Universities in Ireland for students who have already obtained a Higher Certificate or Ordinary Degree
  • Honours Degree and Post Graduate Courses at Institutes of Technology
  • Degree Courses in Universities in other EU Member States for students who have already obtained a Higher Certificate or Ordinary Degree

VEC Scholarship Scheme


Third Level Maintenance Grants Scheme for Trainees (TLT) for students attending:

  • Higher Certificate and Ordinary Degree at Institutes of Technology.

TLT Scheme

Maintenance Grants Scheme for Post Leaving Certificate Courses (PLC) for students attending:

  • Full-time approved courses at approved PLC Colleges

How to Apply

County Dublin VEC operates a Scheme for the award of grants for attendance at post leaving certificate courses and Institutes of Technology and in certain circumstances for attendance at courses in Universities and other Third-Level Institutions in the UK and other EU member states to candidates who are eligible for the award of such grants in accordance with the terms of the Department of Education and Science Grants Scheme for 2009/2010:
Grants awarded by County Dublin VEC are confined to:-

  • Candidates under 23 years of age whose parents or guardians were normally resident in the County Dublin administrative area from October 1, 2008.
  • Mature candidates residing with parents/ guardians whose parents/guardians were normally resident in the County Dublin administrative area from October 1, 2008.
  • Mature candidates not dependent on her/his parents/ guardians and were normally resident in the County Dublin administrative area from October 1, 2008
